German Chocolate Cupcakes

If you’re looking for a sweet treat this weekend with a coconut theme (it is almost summer, after all), these German chocolate cupcakes make just fit the bill.

Based on a chocolate cupcake, these yummies are filled and topped with coconut pecan frosting. If it sounds like heaven, it may be as close as we get.

GERMAN CHOCOLATE CUPCAKES

German chocolate cupcakes are an offshoot of classic German chocolate cake. They consist of chunks of bittersweet chocolate (although you can semisweet if you prefer), coffee, butter, cake flour, cocoa powder (for extra chocolate-y goodness) and buttermilk, among other things. However, the one thing that make them German chocolate, and not just standard chocolate cupcakes, is the semi-sweetened coconut flakes that are added to the chocolate frosting. Make sure to toast them first, in order to end up a very authentic treat!

German Chocolate Cupcakes with Espresso Frosting

These delicious mouth-watering German frosted chocolate cupcakes tempt you with ingredients of buttermilk, sour cream and coffee whisked together. This yummy recipe is ideal for entertaining visitors at any tea party, as the mixture makes at least fourteen extra large cupcakes or much more smaller ones. The chocolate frosting consists of a mix of melted butter with cocoa and coffee. Otherwise add powdered milk and sugar and for extra flavor, stir in a little vanilla.
