Baking for Others: Cupcakes, Three Ways

When baking for others, the important thing is to know what they enjoy most in a cupcake. Cupcake recipes have evolved into more than sugar and flour and baking powder. Some cupcake recipes include such ingredients these days as zucchini, beets, and even liquor. No, cupcakes are not just for kids anymore but rest assured there is a cupcake to suit everyone; you just have to know what your “someone” likes.

STRAWBERRY LIME CUPCAKES FOR THE BIRTHDAY GIRL

The following Sunday we celebrated again, this time with a proper birthday dessert: Strawberry Lime Cupcakes. I took my favorite white cupcake recipe – Perfect White Cupcake: Recipe for Vanilla Bean Sour Cream Cupcakes and brightened them up with some lime zest.

And for such a sweet girl who loves the color pink I made sure to top them with some delicious pink strawberry lime frosting – to which Logan informed us that he likes strawberries as long as they are in frosting! These are definitely a new favorite for all of us.

Beach Cupcakes: Key Lime Pie Cupcakes Decked Out For Summer

Graham cracker cupcakes with key lime filling. Sounds tasty right? Let me add in one additional detail: lime cream cheese frosting. Okay. Stop licking your computer screen. It is time to make some of these treats! The batter consists of graham cracker crumbs, sugar, flour, and several other traditional ingredients. The filling is made of three things: key lime juice, egg yolks and sweetened condensed milk. Top with the lime cream cheese frosting (cream cheese, butter, lime extract and powdered sugar) and serve!

How to Make Mermaid Cupcake Toppers

Turning a cupcake into a seat for a mermaid can only be accomplished with plenty of fondant frosting and a little creativity. Fondant is kind of like clay, only it is completely edible and tastes as sweet as the cupcakes that it goes on top of. To make the fondant mermaid, you will need fondant in six different colors, tylo glue to hold everything together (this can be made at home as well), pearl dragees to serve as accents and, of course, a host of tools to help make everything. It takes time and patience, but the (edible) results are worth it!

Peanut Butter Cupcakes (Vegan)

The word “vegan” tends to scare people off, but once they catch a glimpse of these tasty peanut butter cupcakes, they’ll stop running. Who can resist the lure of cupcakes that are made of peanut butter, dark molasses and vanilla extract, among other things? Once the cupcakes are done baking and have had the chance to cool, chocolate ganache is drizzled on top and some cropped peanuts are tossed on. Tasty and healthy – what a combination!

Ginger Ale Cupcakes

The most festive part of these cupcakes – besides the ginger ale flavoring – are the colorful and festive liners that they are in and the matching pinwheel decorations placed on top. However, you don’t need fancy liners and toppers in order to make these tasty treats. The cupcake batter contains ground ginger, sour cream, ginger ale and a bunch of classic ingredients, like flour, butter and salt. The frosting contains more ground ginger and ginger ale, giving you a double-dose of sweetness!

Raspberry Almond Cupcakes with Chocolate Ganache

In this recipe, almonds, chocolate and raspberries combine to form a light, fluffy, tasty and utterly unique treat. The batter contains chopped up chunks of fresh raspberries and almond extract, along with a whole host of more “standard” ingredients like flour, salt, butter, eggs and milk, among others. The chocolate is added later in the form of homemade chocolate ganche frosting. Top with a whole fresh raspberry, some sprinkles, or anything else that looks great. You won’t regret it!

Flower Cupcakes

The most important part of these cupcakes is the buttercream frosting. The cupcakes are made of a basic vanilla batter, consisting of milk, vanilla extract, salt, eggs, sugar, butter, flour and baking powder. After they have baked and cooled, the fun begins — piping on the buttercream frosting so that it resembles flower petals. Put a chocolate candy in the center of each and voila! You have a pretty springtime treat to serve to your guests.

Lavender Trust Cupcakes

Usually lavender and cupcakes aren’t thought of in the same sentence. However, when you consider the fact that rosemary is often used in baking, why wouldn’t lavender be as well? These Lavender Trust Cupcakes are made from lavender sugar, flour, butter, eggs, salt and milk. Bake, let cool and then cover in lavender colored royal icing and a few stalks of real lavender just to give them a little extra decoration. Serve this unique treat with a smile!
